The goal will be to get more videos up there on sustainability and the groups progress in the valley as time goes on.

Well another successful Citrus Glean. We had about 14 volunteers and managed to fill up the whole U-HAUL trailer. I was worried at first that we may not have enough people but I was wrong. We had enough. The other nice thing was that we had repeat people. Five people that were at the very first glean that we had also showed up for this one. I guess they had so much fun that they decided to come back. Read the rest of this entry »

So today at Sahuaro Ranch Park I attended the Glendale Green Festival. Well, I didn’t really attend I was just there to help Jennifer Fish with her Seedballs For Children event. After it all I’m giving it an ‘A’ for Awesome. Read the rest of this entry »

So today I met with the North Phoenix Action Group. Horse Help which is a non profit organization in Phoenix that uses horses as therapy for disabled people and troubled teens has opened up their facility to have Arizona Home Grown Solutions partner with them in turning a lot of their open and unused space into therapeutic gardening areas. This was the main highlight of the meeting and here are the meeting notes.

Seedballs 101
So today I attended the, Seedballs 101 with Ruby Sheffer, at the Dolce Verde Solutions Hub. It was a very interesting class. For those who do not know, seedballs are made of clay, potting soil, and a variety of seed species that are all rolled up into little balls. The balls can vary from the size of peas, Coco Puffs, or Whoppers candy balls. They look so much like candy balls that I almost ate one.

PPG Community Gardeners Meeting
So yesterday the PPG had it’s monthly community garden meeting and it went pretty good. I arrived about 15 minutes late so by that time the participants had already broken into two groups. I joined a group and met Lisa and Cheryl who both work in the nursing industry. Lisa is a billing specialist and Cheryl is an infant care nurse. Both of them have little to no experience gardening but were really wanting to join the effort in starting something here in the valley by volunteering their time. So the three of us sat down and brain stormed a few ideas. Not that any of these ideas can happen now, but we thought it would be good to still put them out there and add to the idea bucket.

So this was just another opportunity for Arizona Home Grown Solutions to pick some fruit from those who need it removed from their trees and donate it to those who need food to eat.

So yesterday I attended a Steering Committee meeting for Arizona Home Grown Solutions(AZHS) organization and a lot of things were shared and accomplished. At the end a very good meeting was had. One of the things that came up was the possibility of trying to look at the technology that AZHS uses to organize and communicate with people.

February 23rd, 2009
So this Sunday I went out to help with the Citrus Gleaning Service for Arizona Home Grown Solutions. Essentially what is done for the project is that they receive several volunteers and they go around picking the citrus from trees and then donating that to several food banks around town. This time they went to an area that had mostly elderly people who could no longer pick their trees and so they called the volunteers in to come help them with their problem. As usual I took some pictures while we worked on picking some fruit.
